Portland Aluminium

The Portland Aluminium Smelter is located next to the Victorian coastal town of Portland (443 Kms west of Melbourne).  The Smelter was commissioned in 1986 and has 2 Pot Lines with a total of 408 pots.  The Portland Aluminium facility was recognised as one of the most productive and energy efficient Smelters for its time.  The Smelter is jointly owned by three companies including Alcoa, who is also the operator.  The Smelter produces approximately 30% of Australia’s total aluminium production.

Silcar’s contract with Portland Aluminium commenced in 2006, the initial scope of work was the provision of mechanical maintenance  services to the Ingot Mill, Rodding Mill, and Pot Room areas of the Smelter;
