Koniambo Power Station

The contract required Silcar to establish a start-up team of around 48 staff including ten locally trained university graduates as the plant operators. Establish the spare parts required for the plant, develop the operations and maintenance documentation including standard operating procedures, isolations procedures and manuals. Conduct a comprehensive Reliability and Maintainability study to ensure the plant design can support continuous operation of the nickel smelter using Meridium.

Mobilise to site, establish the operational team, train the operators using skilled expatriates for the first four years of operation, assist the constructors to commission the plant and take it to a full capacity capability over the first three years.

Manage the cost of operations, maintain the assets, manage shutdowns and routine plant maintenance and care.

Scope of Work

Operate and maintain the plant from start-up through to full capacity, five year term includes the establishment of local operators direct from university via a comprehensive knowledge transfer program built and delivered by Aurecon.

Brief Description

Island mode power plant of 350Mw total capacity comprised of two circulating fluidised bed boilers running on black coal, supported by two Rolls Royce Trent 60 gas turbines running on diesel fuel and started by two 3.5Mw Intergen black start diesel generators.

Mobilisation started April 2011, five year contract with possibility to hand over or continue.
